Spirit

Spirit

Are you spiritually fit? Have you reached your highest spiritual self? When it comes to oneness, it is our spirit, God within, that brings us life. Wherever you are along your journey of faith, you are where you are supposed to be; yet God is not done with you yet!

Just as our bodies age as we get older and our minds mature overtime, our spirit longs for maturity and growth in our relationship with God; within- I AM that I AM. Along our journey in life, he gives us direction, perspective, wisdom, and courage. He encourages us to become more fit in a variety of ways: more spiritually fit, more physically fit, and more emotionally fit. (Food, Fitness, and Faith for Women)

Becoming more fit in mind, body, and spirit all require action to be achieved. Action comes from movement towards your greater self-towards the Divine. This movement may require seeking, reaching, learning, or all in one. It also requires just being and breathing. Just being and breathing can be accomplished through slowing down. Gandhi said, “There is more to life than increasing its speed.”

In America, it is socially acceptable to function (work, interact, eat, and sleep) under a state of stress. Moving at such an anxious speed all the time causes havoc on our bodies: mind, body, spirit. Our sympathetic nervous system kicks in full gear and directs our bodies into a rapid involuntary response to dangerous or stressful situations. Your heart rate speeds up, blood pressure increases, your breathing becomes labored, hormones are released into the bloodstream, your blood flow is rerouted, and your digestive system is shut down. Through our fast habitual actions, we begin to go through the motions, not realizing the physical damage we are causing to our bodies. It becomes impossible to stay and feel and to move through our emotions.

When our breath is constricted or we stop breathing, we lose touch with our “here and now” in the present moment. We lose touch with our feeling-world. Doing this hinders the very being of our divine spirit within us all.

God IS our very breath of life. Practicing mindfulness and consciousness allows the dynamic movement of our spirit that is available to us all. Our breath as our powerful spirit, allows us to feel our emotions, and equips us to move beyond them. Practicing and becoming more aware of our breath, activates our parasympathetic nervous system. When we activate PNS, our bodies conserve energy, increase intestinal and gland activity, and we relax, gaining access to a higher state of awareness. Our breath will ease us, comfort us, enlighten us and support us along our journey through our deepest transformations.

“Be still and know that I AM God.” ~ Psalm 46:10
